In May, the Willunga Environment Centre is hosting a presentation by Heather Smith, Chair of the Coalition for Community Energy, looking at ways we can manage the transition to 100% renewable energy in the home.
Buildings are one of the world’s main users of energy. Cars are another. Home design has always placed demands on energy systems, and now energy system transformation is changing our homes. Let’s look over the horizon together and imagine the future with 100% renewable energy.
How can our homes use all the surplus solar and wind energy that we will be generating? Which appliances in our homes are flexible? which provide storage? what’s easy to do now and what requires a rethink of the whole building fabric? Does electric transport make the transformation easier or more difficult?
Heather Smith is the Chair of the Coalition for Community Energy and an electrical engineer. In 2016 she travelled to the US, Europe and Japan in search of those communities driving changes in their local energy arrangements.
On Samso Island in Denmark they transformed the housing before they built the energy system. Come and contribute to a wealth of ideas about what our homes of the future might look like and the no-regrets steps we can all take now.
On Tuesday, May 9 · 6:30 – 8:30pm ACST
Willunga Environment Centre 15 High Street Willunga, SA 5172
