There’s an exciting new venture taking place at the Willunga Environment Centre, in collaboration with City of Onkaparinga Council. The Centre is starting a Seed Library for fruit and veggie gardening. The program is brand new, and will be offering members access to 2 (only) packets per person to be taken and planted.
Environment Centre volunteers will be preparing envelopes and popping seeds in them for use. The Woodcroft Community Centre will also have some in their space. The Centre will also be conducting workshops on seed saving and growing from seed etc (all ideas welcome).
Willunga Environment Centre Manager Janine Anninos is hoping for a big response. “The more people who are involved,” she said, “the wider we can share the seeds.”
“If you have excess seeds from your gardening efforts, you’re invited to share them with your local community.”
Generally, simple things to grow are preferred like parsley, broad beans, coriander, carrots, spinach, other herbs and veggies, but the Centre would accept all donations to the Seed Library. Seeds can be dropped off at the Willunga Environment Centre, or they would happily collect them from you if that is preferred.
