Hon Susan Close MP, Deputy Premier and Minister for Climate, Environment and Water, has graciously agreed to address the Annual General Meeting of the Willunga Environment Centre on the evening of Monday, August 15th 2022.
The Deputy Premier is a keen supporter of Environment and Natural Resource Centres in South Australia, and will speak to the Malinauskas Labor Government’s environmental plans and policies for the future.
The AGM will also see the election of a new Management Committee for the Centre. Nominations for the committee are welcome from the floor.
Those attending will also hear a presentation by Heather Smith, Chair of the Coalition for Community Energy, entitled:
.What does the next 10 years hold for local energy transformations?
All over the world, energy transitions are gathering pace. We absorb messages of more renewables and greater electrification, and hear exciting stories about hydrogen, batteries and electric vehicles. We hear less about the substantial changes that will happen at local levels as we continue to increase rooftop solar and need to make the most of it with flexible energy uses. The AGM will provide an opportunity to explore the ramifications of many novel technologies and corresponding social changes as we rapidly phase out fossil fuels.
Heather Smith is the Chair of the Coalition for Community Energy and an electrical engineer. In 2016 she travelled to the US, Europe and Japan in search of those communities driving changes in their local energy arrangements. She believes many of the changes we will see in the next decade are more transformational than we currently imagine. Come and hear about the renewable energy futures that are starting to make sense and insights from Heather’s latest research on redesigning the electricity system with microgrids.
