We are writing to keep you updated on the latest developments regarding the wave pool at Aldinga.
Tentative date for Council Assessment Panel (CAP) meeting
We have been unofficially advised that the CAP meeting is likely to be held on Thursday, 27 March 2025. FYI – CAP meetings typically start at around 6pm and are held at the Council Offices, Ramsey Place, Noarlunga Centre. We will confirm these details as soon as we hear.
Developers have submitted amendments to Council in response to community feedback
Additionally, we have been informed that, in response to community feedback, the developers have submitted the following amendments to their original proposal:
- Reduction in Lighting Tower Height: The height of the lighting towers will be reduced by 2 metres (from 27 metres to 25 metres).
Amended Hours of Operation:
- May-August: 7 AM – 8 PM every day of the week
- March-April & September-November: 7 AM – 9 PM (Sun-Thurs), 7 AM – 10 PM (Fri-Sat and Sun before public holidays)
- December-February: 7 AM – 10 PM (Sun-Thurs), 7 AM – 11 PM (Fri-Sat and Sun before public holidays).
Please note that these amendments may be subject to further revisions prior to the CAP’s decision.
We remain firmly opposed to the construction of the lighting towers. Our concern is that once the lights are installed, there will likely be ongoing requests for further extensions of operating hours based on demand, and we are unlikely to receive any notice from the Council about these future changes.
To reinforce our concerns, we commissioned an independent lighting report. This report has been submitted to and acknowledged by Council. In summary, it states that:
“Based on the results of the independent lighting model, the proposed Wave Pool Lighting located at the corner of Tuit Road and Bowering Hill Road, Aldinga, does not comply with AS/NZS 4282:2023, as the neighbouring properties will be adversely impacted by the obtrusive lighting.”
Therefore, regardless of the time of day, the lights are non-compliant under the current application. Early, unofficial advice from the independent lighting specialist suggests that the 2-metre height reduction of the lighting towers will actually increase light spill. Ultimately, we oppose the installation of the lighting towers in any form.
