The newly appointed Environment Minister, Hon. Lucy Hood MP, paid a visit to the Willunga Environment Centre today, as part of a fact-finding tour of Environment Centres in South Australia.
The purpose of the tour, according to the Minister, is to get to know each centre individually and to learn how her department can help them achieve their goals.
Environment Centre Chairman Ray Mines said the Centre was entering a period of renewal, with a newly expanded Board and a renewed commitment to broadening the reach of the Centre.
Ray pointed to such successful programs as The Repair Cafe, Stitch and Fix sewing group and the Wirra Creek Community Garden as examples of the Centre’s growing reach.
Board member Luke Sarsons referred to the recently completed Strategic Plan which outlined the centre’s commitment to investigating and developing new programs.
Jenni Mitton, Labor candidate for the local seat of Mawson, accompanied the Minister. Jenni is well known to the Willunga Environment Centre, having collaborated with them on many occasions when she managed the Willunga Farmers Market for many years.
