The Aldinga Bay Aquatic Centre Feasibility Study and Business Case Report (June 2024) makes a case for an aquatic centre at Aldinga, based on current demographics and future growth, and the report confirmed there is considerable support from the community for aquatic facilities in our area.
The Report identifies the most suitable potential site for an aquatic centre as the ‘green triangle’ at Aldinga. The preferred site is bordered by Port Road, Bowering Hill Road, and Quinliven Road, west of the proposed rail corridor. The land is currently owned by Renewal SA and zoned ‘Deferred Urban’, with a potential for further housing development.
Based on the Report, the State government has written to Renewal SA and asked for Aldinga to be considered for a possible future facility, and the Action Group are now asking the Mayor to do so as well.
The most desirable outcome is for the ‘green triangle’ to be rezoned ‘Recreation’, and set aside for sport and recreation and possible future aquatic facility, something for all ages and abilities in our community to share.
The Action Group’s deputation and a motion submitted by Councillor Paul Yeomans will be considered at the Council Meeting on Tuesday, 9th December 2025.
